Returning for our sixth year, summer outdoor concerts and movies in the square at U District Station. The theme for this year's movies is Back to School. All free, all the time.

Each night, a limited number of attendees receive a sealed assignment, a prop, and a precise cue. Everyone else gets the show. Welcome to participatory cinema. Not available in theaters.

The Morgan Smith & Co. was formed out of a deep reverence for American roots music and the rich, storied history of traditional bluegrass. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, bandleader Morgan Smith blends classic high-lonesome drive with a fresh, Pacific Northwest energy that resonates with audiences of all generations.

Elle Woods gets dumped for not being serious enough, so she follows her ex to Harvard Law and beats him at his own game. Hockey Teeth is a Seattle-based power pop band blending the high energy of modern rock with the catchy melodies of mid-60s pop. What follows is the most quotable high school musical ever made, wall to wall with songs you will discover you already know by heart. It is loud, it is a little ridiculous, and it is built for an audience that sings along. This one rewards a crowd, so plan to be part of it.

Funnier and kinder than its reputation suggests. Come for the outfits, stay for the surprisingly big heart.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986, PG-13)
One student, one stolen Ferrari, and one perfect skipped day in Chicago while an entire school system tries and fails to catch him. John Hughes made a movie about the specific joy of getting away with something, and it has never stopped feeling like permission. Closing the season with it is deliberate: life moves pretty fast, and this is the last outdoor movie of the year. You know what happens if you don't stop and look around.
